Fruit and Vegetable Collection

A collection for gardeners, and lovers of fresh fruits and vegetables

HEIRLOOM GOLDEN BEET

Beta Vulgaris

I love the orange root of the beet, and the bright colour that becomes apparent when you wash off the soil it was growing in. When I positioned the leaves it looked so elegant it made me think of a swan with its long slender neck.

POMEGRANATE

Punica granatum

The pomegranate always reminds me of the Christmas season. They appear in the shops in the fall, and with their glistening red seeds I can’t help thinking of Christmas cheer.

TOMATOES

Solanum lycopersicum

Like many people, during the pandemic I expanded my garden to include more vegetables. We have a short growing season here and they didn’t get a chance to turn red before I picked them. This painting is a tribute to growing your own produce, and the beauty found right in your backyard garden and in our salad bowls.
Painted from life, made to capture a realistic portrayal of this common and loved fruit.

GLOBE EGGPLANT

Solanum melongena

The aubergine, or eggplant, the shiny, dark purple beauty. While they initially appear almost black, I love the different purples, and blues that appear when bright light shines on their skin.

RONDE DE NICE ZUCCHINI

Cucurbita pepo

I grew this Ronde de Nice Zucchini in my garden from seed. As the yellow flowers opened, they had a beautiful exotic curve.

. When the flowers opened at a certain time of day, the bees were all over them, gathering sweet nectar.

The round zucchini itself was a beautiful mosaic of different greens.

Apple and Pear

Malus domestica and Pyrus communis L.

Appreciation for these two common fruits, staples in my diet for years. They are sliced here to reveal the inside structures.
